In a barren landscape, a woman with a selfie stick looks back through five lenses. The lenses represent the five previous periods of mass extinction, from the first extinction event around 443 million years ago to the latest event that wiped out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. The positions of the lenses are proportional to time, their sizes relative to the percentage of animals wiped out. The woman represents today’s world, where a sixth extinction event may be underway. Meanwhile, the mountain range in the background is actually a plot of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere over this period, a major contributor to global warming.
